Servers | Virtualization
The term “Virtualization” refers to the technology and processes that allow us to operate more than one independent virtual “machines” on a single physical hardware platform. These virtual machines utilize the hardware resources (memory, processor, storage) according to a distribution that we have defined (in quantity or percentage) and can be either static or adjusted based on the needs of the machines and available resources.

1. Efficient Hardware Utilization
With virtualization, we achieve optimization of hardware utilization by fully leveraging its capabilities. Modern servers have high performance capabilities that are not fully utilized by applications.

2. Flexibility of Independent Operations
With virtualization, we can isolate applications that support different functions of the Municipality, which are not interconnected and therefore do not need to affect each other's operation or rely on the same operating system. For example, the email server runs on one virtual machine, the Financial Management application on another, the database on yet another, each with its own operating system, whether open source or otherwise. Any malfunction, such as a bug, in one virtual machine does not impact the others in any way.

3. Resource Utilization Efficiency
With virtualization, there's no need to allocate hardware that will be used only during peak demand moments. Additionally, it reduces management and maintenance costs, as well as the electricity consumption from using fewer servers.

4. Security and Disaster Recovery
Virtual machines have the capability to be backed up as a whole (software server - applications - settings), making it very easy to transfer them to another environment (which is, of course, configured to 'host' such machines). This allows the business to continue seamlessly in case of hardware failure or disaster.
